Saved!

While most of the country is out watching Pirates of the Caribbean 3...I've been stuck doing family stuff and finishing my assessment project. How did I occupy myself while doing chores...I watched SAVED! Now I can't say enough good things about this movie but I will share the basic premise: it is about a teenage girl in a uber, born-again-christian community who becomes pregnant trying to "save" her gay boyfriend. Although the subject matter is serious, there are several really hilarious scenes in this movie that makes you spit out your water and choke on your popcorn funny. One of my favorite scenes is when the ultra-conservative, christian character Hillary Fay, throws a bible at Mary and screams, "I am filled with Christ's love!" It's such an absurd statement to follow such a harsh action that it makes you laugh hysterically. I think that even if you are a religious person and agree with the morality found in born-agains you will still find this movie funny and interesting because it shows how some people can get a little carried away in the name of religion. I give this movie two thumbs up and suggest you watch it immeadiately! P.S, what do you think if you've already seen it?

A League of their Own

"Hey cow girls, see the grass? Don't eat it!" "There's no crying! There's no crying in baseball" These are some of the best quotes from one of my favorite comedies, A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN! (a movie about the first ever women's baseball league). This weekend was busy, busy, busy but I was able to watch this movie while cleaning up my room. The beauty about this movie is that somehow I can be busy doing something else but I always and unconsciously seem to tune in for the funniest moments. Tom Hanks, who is amazing in his own right, makes this movie what it is...hilarious. I'm still laughing right now about the scene where Stilwell starts taunting him about losing the game and he gets so fed up that he hits the kid in the head with a baseball glove...it's priceless. The whole time you're watching the movie you're just waiting for somebody to tell that kid to stop and finally Tom has to do something about it. I think that might be my favorite moment. What's yours?

Robin Hood

Happy Mother's day! It has been a crazy week and i've been up to my ears in things to do. Even so, I still managed to squeeze in one movie this morning - ROBIN HOOD! I don't know what got into me but I decided to watch one of my favorite childhood movies. If you haven't seen it, the movie is about Robin Hood an english hero (and fox in this circumstance) who steals from the rich to give to the poor and eventually defeats the king to win his lady in honor. It's easy to say that I am one of those disney kids and I love this movie because of the cute songs and the silly scenes. I can't get out of my head the song that goes..."Robin Hood and little John walking through the forest ooh di la do ooh di la de golly what a day!" I highly recommend this movie if you have little ones or need to nurture your inner child --> check it out!

Hope Floats

With all this spiderman buzz I decided to not go out to the movies...I just dont' want to deal with that many people plus I am swamped with some work. So I decided to watch Hope Floats. Who's in it might you ask? Sandra Bullock and Harry Conick Jr. Yeah I didn't know he was an actor. I really thought that this would be a good movie because I love Sandra Bullock and think she's an amazing actress but overall I didn't find myself wanting to watch it again.
Here is the premise...Bertie (Ms. Bullock) is dumped for another woman by her husband on tv. So she moves home to texas and has trouble readjusting because it is a small town and everybody's talking about what happened. Her daughter is really mad at her because she thinks her mother is to blame for all of her marital problems and Bertie's mom (Gena Rowland) wants her to move on to another guy (Harry Conick Jr.) who is a big sweetheart. It's all just a big mess with a lot of bruised relationships. There are some funny scenes with but overall the movie is really serious and basically works off the premise of life's unexpected obstacles and the growing pains that accompany them. If you're in the mood check it out because the acting is good...it's just kind of a slow paced, tense movie.

Bad News Bears

This week I managed to squeeze in another movie, Bad News Bears. Again it was a movie I had already seen before but I always have some kind of movie or music playing even when I'm doing something unrelated. I've seen this movie a bunch of times and every time I watch I find a new scene which I think is so freaking funny. Towards the end of the movie there is a scene with Greg Kinnear where he is totaly ticked off that one of the punk kids from the bears hits a triple and the facial expressions he makes are simply hillarious. For some strange reason he is so good at playing a complete jerk!
By the way I forgot to introduce the movie. It's about a group of social outcast kids who come together to form a baseball team with a drunk ex-pro baseball player as the coach. It is really a funny and potentially offensive movie consider Billy Bob Thorton plays the lead. Overall I give it a thumbs up if you're in the mood to laugh, but don't expect Tom Stoppard or Oscar Wilde wit, it just won't happen. Rent this movie today!

Blogging in orange...no it's not a movie

Ha ha ha I'm blogging in orange :)

The Longest Yard

I really did try to watch a new movie this weekend but all efforts failed. But I must say at least I did watch something, THE LONGEST YARD! I watched the remake with Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and the legendary Burt Reynolds. It is hilarious...so funny that I actually own it. It's about former NFL stars who are imprisoned and form a football team of inmates that face their abusive guards. There are parts which are serious but I guarantee you'll spend at least 90% of the movie laughing your butt off.
I am a sucker for physical comedy and this movie has plenty of it. There are two scenes that I think are classic. The first involves a giant inmate kicking a fellow inmate in the face and breaking his nose. When the hurt inmate begins to cry after Crewe (Adam Sandler) fixes his nose he asks, "How does it look?" to which Crewe replies "Like a young Michael Jackson!" The inmate is so happy by this compliment that he picks up Caretaker (Chris Rock) for a victory hug even though Caretaker is about a 1/3 of the guy's size. The second hilarious scene is when Crewe deliberately throws a football at the biased referee in very particular place...which for me is always good for a cheap laugh.
Again, like with most of the movies I watch, this film won't change your life and is probably offensive to a lot of people, but it makes me laugh hysterically so I think you watch it!

keep it funny,

Holly
